Tuğra is a symbol or signature that includes the sultan's name and nickname. Tughra, as a branch of calligraphy, has been written by master calligraphers for centuries. In Turkish, it means a special sign containing the sultan's name, or the sultan's signature. Originally, a tughra in the Oghuz dialect means the printed signature of a ruler. The first tughra used by Orhan Gazi contained the phrase "Orhan bin Osman" and is dated 1324, the other 1348. A tughra belonging to Sultan Osman Gazi I has not been found anywhere to this day. Therefore, there are 36 Ottoman sultans, but only 35 Ottoman sultan tughras. The section where the sultan's name and his father's name are written is called the throne, chair, or sere.
