Tughra is a symbol or signature that includes the name and nickname of the sultan. Tughra is a branch of calligraphy that has been written by master calligraphers for centuries. In Turkish, as a word, it means a special sign containing the name of the sultan, such as the sultan's signature. The original word is tughra in the Oghuz dialect, which means the printed signature of the sultan. The first tughra used by Orhan Gazi consists of the expression Orhan bin Osman, and the first of the tughras is dated 1324 and the other is dated 1348. A tughra belonging to Sultan Osman Gazi I has not been found anywhere to this day. Therefore, there are 36 Ottoman sultans, but only 35 Ottoman sultan tughras. The section where the sultan's name and his father's name are written is called the throne, rostrum, or sere. The section extending from here to the left, from bottom to top, and consisting of two concentric curves, is called the beyze or sanjak.
