Tuğra, a symbol or signature containing the sultan's name and nickname. Tuğra, as a branch of calligraphy, has been written by master calligraphers for centuries. In Turkish, it means a special sign containing the sultan's name, the sultan's signature. The original word, tughra, is in the Oghuz dialect and means the printed signature of the sultan. The first tughra used by Orhan Gazi consists of the expression Orhan bin Osman, and the first of the tughras is dated 1324 and the other 1348. A tughra belonging to First Sultan Osman Gazi has not been found anywhere to this day. For this reason, there are 36 Ottoman sultans, but 35 Ottoman sultan tughras. The part where the names of the sultan and his father are written is called throne, rostrum or sere. The part extending from here to the left and consisting of two concentric curves extending from bottom to top is called beyze or sanjak.
